So I guess by now the word is out and about regarding Facebook‘s impending implementation of the HASHTAG. We all know the hashtag has been Twitter‘s thing since its’ inception, but this little sucker has been creeping onto other social sites. It used to be that you’d only see them on Facebook if people had Twitter posts that were connected to FB. Now you find regular Joes throwing them around in their regular updates.
Now, I really can`t say that I have a problem with the happy hashtag. It serves its`purpose well. I will occaisionally throw one or two around just so I can be like the cool kids! My problem is when folks over-use the little guy, turning statements into coded messages. Spent a great day shopping with my girls!!! becomes: #shoppingthereapy #girlzrule #shoutouttomiamihs. Yeh, right. It`s also a bit of a pain to stop and find the hashtag and add it before everything I want to say.
And Facebook has come to the conclusion that making hashtagging a part of how we post is a good thing. Not because it`s what the people want, cuz I`m pretty sure no on at FB HQ called me to ask my opinion; it`s for monetary purposes. Hashtagging narrows your likes down, making it easier for advertisers to target you. This translates into MO`MONEY MO`MONEY MO`MONEY!

Personally, I think Facebook and their ad crews are already way too far up in my bizniz. And all the privacy settings don`t fool me one bit. I haven’t yet reached the point of leaving FB….but that`s another topic for another time. I like FB just fine. I just don’t think I`m ready to squish my thoughts into bite-sized offerings headed by a number sign. #thanksanyway.
