I have to be honest, I cannot tell a lie….I’m not sure what to write about today, though I am moved to write something. My fellow bloggers can relate, I’m sure. You have the drive to write. You have a need to write. And a responsibility to your followers to churn out yet one more bold and brilliant piece! But it’s not always easy, because as much as the desire is there to put pen to paper….OH SORRY, that’s so 20th century! Shall I say, put finger to key, then….the fodder is just nowhere to be found.
Wait…there’s something coming in. Don’t move, you’re messing up my signal!! Aaannnndd, there it is! I bought a new book today. Only one, unfortunately. When I was a child, as soon as I got my allowance money (all of $5.00 per week), I made my way posthaste to the book store. My favourite bookstore….ok, the closest bookstore was W H Smith. Smith books, for the purpose of sharing information with you, has since become absorbed into the Coles~Chapters~Indigo family of bookstores. When I’d saved a couple of weeks’s worth of money, I would get 2 or 3 books AND a bookmark for each book! Yeppers, five bucks went far in the 80’s *insert nostalgic sigh*
My love for books hasn’t diminished over the years; alas, the money has. So trips to the book store are few and far between. These days I only go when something new catches my eye. More often than not, it’s the latest by Stephen King. I won’t claim to be THE BIGGEST Stephen King fan. I’ve seen him at a speaking engagement; I’ve purchased most of his books from the very first to the most recent; I’d love to meet him in person and shake his creepy little hands. But I draw the line at hangin’ about outside his house, waiting for him to come out, watch him get in his car, and follow him to 7-11. Thought about it, but wouldn’t do it.
So, recently I’ve been hearing a lot about this Game of Thrones series on HBO. I turned a deaf ear and a blind eye to any Facebook postings about it, just because it meant nothing to me. Then I heard about this AMAZING ENDING that had everyone up in arms! Well, that was it, I wanted to know more. And then I found out that there were books! Well, I don’t have to tell you how fast I put that on my list of books to buy. Oh…ok….I guess I do have to tell you…Pretty Darn Fast!! Today I made the trip to the nearest (not so near) bookstore, marched right up the counter and demanded to be escorted to the closest Game of Thrones shelf! Nah, not really. I’m pretty nice to salespeople, so I asked sweetly, and she told me politely which way to go. Copy of G. o T. safely in my hands, I purchased it and walked out with that “I just bought a new book, and I can’t wait to have a cup of tea and and a snack and start reading” smile on my face.
I’m really looking forward to it, gonna crack it open once I close off here. If you’ve read it, I welcome your comments, thoughts, impressions but please, please, please no spoilers
